cop accused of shaking down truckers

Ex-Port Authority cop accused of shaking down truckers

11/16/07
Quote:
FREEHOLD, N.J. - Monmouth County grand jurors have indicted a retired Port Authority police officer on charges of shaking down truckers for money for a youth baseball team that he coached.

Prosecutors allege Robert Nanni kept almost $60,000 for himself.

Prosecutors say the 53-year-old would stop truckers on the Goethals Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing and let them go if they donated to the North Howell Stingrays. Nanni coached the traveling baseball team for 12-year-olds.
Authorities say Nanni eventually approached trucking companies and said they wouldn't get tickets if they made donations.

Authorities say the allegations unfolded in Union, Middlesex, Ocean and Monmouth counties.

Nanni retired in 2006.

He's charged with official misconduct, receiving stolen property, theft of services and theft by deception.

These are the cops we all know and love. Heck, if I could donate $100/year for a nationwide safety net, I'd jump right on it.

I agree with what someone said a few threads back, about how we only hear about the bad cops, and the majority of them that are good, and that actually do their jobs right aren't put into consideration.
But the point still stands, that there are way too many who are crooked. They give the rest of the cops a bad rap.
I live in Pulaski County, Kentucky, in the city of Somerset. I know you all will automatically think you never heard of my town, but I almost guarentee you have.... because of some crooked cops.
What am I talking about? Have you ever heard of the "town that shot the sheriff?" I think that's what the A&E special called my town.
Our old Sheriff Sam Catron, who's daddy was assasinated (also was a cop) back in the late 1960's...... well he was at a political rally, when his opponent's hired gun, shot him, and killed him. He was leaning down getting pies out of his cruiser, when the man shot him.
Ok, so his opponent was a crook that's a given. I was screwing around with this girl a few years, back, who swears up and down that she used to smoke dope with Sam Catron! I don't know if she was full of it or not......
oh, and when you look that up on the A&E website, and you see that a man named Danny White also was involved..... this man, I knew as a kid. He used to hang out with my dad, and we went snake hunting sometimes. (don't laugh it's a Kentucky thing. or atleast was until it was outlawed a few years back.)
anyway, this was my first experience of a police officer..... He used to pull people over, for a DUI, let them go, but take their booze..... and I've witnessed him bootlegging the goods! He also used to take bootlegged nintendo games, and keep them for himself, and he even gave me and my sister a few if I remember right. hahahhahaha
But now he is serving time, for consiparcy to commit murder, though I am unaware of his role exactly.
But my point is there are way too many crooked cops.
However, we shouldn't discount all the good ones either. There are actually more good ones if you believe it or not.

oh yeah, on a side note..... how many of us have gotten those annoying phone calls, where some cop wanted us to donate money for something, like a teddy bear fund, or something like that? I kid you not..... I got a call just like that once.

Those are not cops. Those calls are from professional scammers.

Back when I was running our wholesale warehouse I would get a phone call every week asking for a 50.00 donation to a trooper's union or some other B.S. I would just tell the caller that the owner was not in. After 8 times they finally stopped calling. One time they even made a visit to which I said the same thing:the owner is not in. That was my way of shaking them down,LOL.It paid off and I never heard from them again. I guess the taxes we already pay are not enough. I hope this ex-cop gets some jail time. There is no excuse for this B.s.

I've not only heard of it, I've been there. I used to go there twice a year, bringing and taking back a grinder to the fake log factory there. Never had a problem with the cops. Must have been lucky.

Yeah, but you can't trust them to take the $100 and leave you alone.
I did a paper in college about the mind set of people that wanted to serve this country, I did alot of reserching such things as there reasons why choose that carear path, and i also did alot of research on inhouse crimes( IE, theft, and dissorderly conduct) In one saginaw, michigan district 17 police had more then 5 sexual missconduct complaint's against them. Of those 16 are still patroling the streets, the only one that is not was fired because he was caught steeling money, knives, a set of rims and tires and cell phones.. But that was only after
the third time being caught. They are liars and thives and the only reason the become cops is because they have supiority over people. I would tell what some of the complaint's wre but you would not be able to sleep tonight.. And incase you were wondering NO they did not just hand this over to me, The paper was a group project(three of us) and one of the guys mom was a legal aid for the saginaw county DA and she and her boss
did most of the work.. But still nothing happened. As i was told it's a boys club and as long as they are in that club, they can do no wrong.
God i love america, and lady justice..Don't you?
