In Linden, NJ, just southwest of New York City, trucks have been hitting the 12-foot-4-inch high North Wood Avenue railroad bridge for years.
In fact, according to the Home News Tribune, two more hit it just last week.
So, the city installed a new warning system that consists of lasers to detect trailer height, a flashing yellow light, bells and a sign that reads: “Overheight Vehicle Stop.”
On Monday, Nov. 19, they activated the system. Two hours later a 32-year-old trucker from California apparently missed the flashing lights and bells and wedged his 13-foot-6-inch trailer under the bridge.

UK Low Bridge Solution

Software is available in the UK for download to any satellite navigation device (GPS). An audible and visual warning is given when the trucker is near a low clearance.

If this guy is that blind and not paying attention to his surroundings then he should not be driving period, let alone a semi.

I'm thinking that maybe, if they want to prevent anymore trucks hitting that trestle, they should warn first and then disable the vehicle. Some of these clowns are so busy listening to satellite radio, they think everything around them is on that radio; short of dropping a bomb on them, you just aren't going to get their attention.
