| law enforcement feud No NH legal aid in law enforcement feud
11/25/07 Quote:
The two highway patrol officers being sued by the state troopers union want the state to help defend them in the lawsuit, but that is not going to happen, according to Associate Attorney General Anne Edwards. Edwards said the state will not pay legal fees incurred by highway patrol officers William Carlberg Jr. and Scott Bowen.
Both men fear losing their homes as their lawyer's fees climb.
Edwards did say she will review documents filed in the case to see if there are any new issues that directly affect the Department of Safety. If so, the state could seek to intervene in the case, Edwards said.
"If there were disagreements over organizations' issues -- for example, why highway patrol officers' uniforms aren't more distinctive from troopers' uniforms -- and someone was trying to raise in a lawsuit that uniforms or cars had to change, then the Department of Safety would be concerned," she said. >>>>>
