JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A trucker who was shot before dawn Monday while driving on the Westside, then crashed his tractor-trailer into the tree in a yard is recovering at Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center.

According to police, neighbors heard a single gunshot, then the big rig crashing in the 2800 block of Sunnyside Street about 3 a.m.

"I looked out the window and 'cause I could see these bright lights," said Janie Richardson "The truck had run into the tree, so I called 911."

Rescue personnel found the man still behind the wheel.

Police said the man -- who was not immediately identified -- was shot in the neck, but is expected to recover.

Channel 4's Nikki Preede was told that police had no one in custody and were trying to identify a suspect.

Police ask anyone with any information about the incident to call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
