Produce hauler shocked by unsanitary conditions at loading dock

Produce hauler shocked by unsanitary conditions at loading dock
11/26/07
Quote:
Although it was Michael Yeagle’s first time loading produce at the Guadalupe Cooling Company’s facility in Guadalupe, CA, he said the sanitary conditions he witnessed on the dock were the worst he’s seen in the 18 years he’s been hauling produce.
Yeagle is a professional truck driver from New Weston, OH.
He told Land Line that while waiting for his pallets of broccoli to be loaded on his trailer on Saturday, Nov. 24, he went to find the restroom facilities, which are next to the cooler.
He said he refused to use the first bathroom he went in after observing piles of used toilet paper on the floor, but he did use the urinal in the second bathroom. He said he really became concerned when he flushed the urinal, then noticed its contents were draining out onto the dock’s concrete floor.
Yeagle said he reported the situation to the shipping clerk on duty after watching a forklift driver drive through the overflowing wastewater eight separate times while loading pallets of broccoli onto Yeagle’s trailer. He also took photographs of the scene with his camera phone.

Yeah, sure it was an "isolated incident".

I have one word for this friends

Deregulation ! the goverment is well aware of some of the things these companies are doing. they put there stamp of approval on it all in the 1980s when the congress deregulated everything, trucking companies included ! causing one of this nations greatest financial disasters known as the S& L bail out not to mention the nightmare working conditions they created for employees.

in reference to the toilet paper being deposited on the floor instead of IN the toilet-this is a clear sign of south of the border workers, they must do that in their homeland because of the plumbing(lack of).it should be a red flag to our food industry about this kind of stuff going on but as usual, nobody wants to disrupt our "cheap labor pool". many of those guys in the coolers are in fact illegal aliens, promoted from the fields to the cooler positions, which in reality should be held by US citizens. however these places get away with this as the coolers are part of the AG industry, who seem to get a green light about hiring undocumented workers.i've seen the similar restrooms at the Nestle Hot Pockets plant in Chatsworth CA.needless to say i'll never eat one of those again. don't ya love those "messy cans". right up there with the urine bottles all over the highways!

Yup. We were down south once and it was all on the floor and in the waste basket. GROSS!!!!! Made me puke!!!!! I didn't use their facilities and we were there over night. I'd rather go in the woods or in a plastic garbage bag filled with paper towel or SOMETHING other than in there.

At least now I know why - and that's all that were working there, too. Mexican MEN - no women. And the front office would NOT let me use their washroom. Pigs!!!

Well, I'm a Canadian and I've never seen anything this bad up here, thank goodness!! I'm not looking forward to going that far south again any time soon. I hated it down there - no dirt, just sand. No grass, just eel grass, not real grass. So humid and hot. Ugh!!! Give me cold!!! I love winter!! LOL!!!

Does anyone think to look up the number for the Board of Health and call them to report unsanitary conditions? I would think any time there are conditions that could pose a health threat they might be interested. (My mom used to have a little beauty shop in our house, had maybe 20-25 regular customers and was inspected regularly, despite always exceeding standards for cleanliness.) I know they will go out and inspect a private residence if a complaint is made, and this seems to be a much farther reaching situation!
(This goes for places truckers have to shower - no one should have to put up with unsanitary conditions. Enough complaints and things will likely get cleaned up. But nothing happens if no one speaks up!)
