TRAFFIC ALERT: Heavy trucks banned from I-95 span in Rhode Island

TRAFFIC ALERT: Heavy trucks banned from I-95 span in Rhode Island
11/28/07
Quote:

PAWTUCKET, R.I. — City officials are bracing for more traffic now that heavy trucks are banned from crossing the Pawtucket River Bridge on Interstate 95.

Beginning Wednesday, trucks weighing more than 22 tons were being diverted off the northbound side of the highway at Exit 27. The trucks will have to travel through city streets, with some being detoured on to the 130-year-old Division Street Bridge.

The ban is designed to prolong the life of the Pawtucket River Bridge.

The state transportation department plans to replace the span within 3-5 years, but Pawtucket Mayor James Doyle says he plans to ask the state’s congressional delegation to seek federal funding to speed up the job.

What a crock of bull-pucky! Trucks banned from an interstate, and then detoured through town? Yeah, why not, that makes complete sense!
How long do they expect that 130 year old bridge to hold up when big trucks start pounding back and forth across it?

Someone should check and see if that a-hole mayor is related to that mayor in Kentucky, who wants big trucks off the I75 bridge (from Cinci).

Well, that's just like I-66 in VA. No trucks allowed inside of the Beltway.

Not exactly, that has been that way for, well I don't know how long. But this is a stretch of interstate that trucks are running on all day and night, now they have to creep through town. I can't wait to see the backlash from the angry citizens, who will no doubt be screaming about those GD loud, smelly trucks tearing through town!

I love my job, the true definition of Damned if you do, and Damned if you don't!

Not to mention that the Pawtucket townsfolk will be led to believe this bridge crisis is all Bush's fault, just like everything else is.

Hopefully Hitlery can get this korekted upon getting elekted next year.

Yeah, part synical and part sarcasim on my part, I admit...(grin)

Well, it is the President's fault. Dammit, he should have been out there personally inspecting every rivet, nut, washer, and bolt on every bridge in the country.
