Crackdown on commercial vehicles begins

Crackdown on commercial vehicles begins
12/17/07
Quote:
Sheriff’s deputies have stepped up enforcement of traffic and safety rules for commercial vehicles since Oct. 1 to control what some see as dangerous conditions on area roads.

The increase resulted in five arrests and 199 citations in 30 days against trucks driving through the county. Many citations issued by Deputies James Novian and Matthew Dill, who oversee the program, involve tractor-trailer rigs that are over roads’ weight limits.

According to the sheriff’s Web site, the deputies have been diligent in working locations where the county has received specific complaints from the public about commercial vehicle violations.

The presence of enforcement officers and scales, along with a record of citing more than 200 safety violations in 30 days will help the county enforce compliance with trucking. Considering that the officers did not have the use of scales until Oct. 23, Sheriff Bob Alford said, their record for October is even more outstanding.

Although fines for overweight trucks are high, the number of wrecks involving these trucks is significant, Precinct 2 Commissioner John Matthews said, and one truck was cited for being more than 30,000 pounds over the weight limit. Too-heavy trucks damage county roads.>>>>

Thumbs up

Cleburne is about 30 miles SW of DFW. It's about time they started enforcing the law. Wish more counties around here would do so. I have been on I-20 and I-35 and had 9,13 axle double drop lowboys pass me at 70 MPH. Most are oilfield trucks moving drilling rigs. They usually move in convoys, but they are always in a hurry. Some of these drivers are 19 or 20 yrs old. A lot of them are only part time drivers. Once set up they work as drillers. Hadn't thought about the permits. Guess the boss didn't either. That's a lot of truck for a newbie who still likes to speed.

Jeeese man, are you a cop or something? Taking up for the pigs instead of the Drivers. Sure, there are some outlaws inthe industry. But thats a good thing. It keeps the industry independent, and appealing.
I would hate for us to be completely restricted. Then you have friggin "cookie cutter" truckers.
Abolish all laws regualting the trucking industry, and allow us to OWN the roads..........HECK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!
Most of the wrecks in the trucking industry come from people who went through some sort of Trucking School anyways.

I wish they'd slow down the log haulers around here. They FLY down our main road, posted at 42 mph, at about 60 mph. They fly through red lights. It's scary.

its funny how they say "the overweight trucks damage our roads" but if you pay a couple extra bucks for a permit, well then its just fine.

USA they ...

hate truck drivers. and they don't know how to build a road that lasts. if they do know how, then the whole thing is a scam , which is what i believe it is anyway.
