| Trucker accused in kidnapping says woman wanted to be bound Trucker accused in kidnapping says woman wanted to be bound 12/28/07 MOBILE, Ala. – A Missouri trucker accused of kidnapping a woman who was found nude and beaten in his truck told police he had consensual sex with the woman and she wanted to be tied up, according to an affidavit filed by the FBI. When officers approached Roy Scott Stillwell after the naked and bound woman called for help, he denied any wrongdoing, the Press-Register reported Saturday. "What is this about?" the criminal complaint quotes Stillwell as saying. "It is not against the law to have sex withsomeone who likes to be tied up." Stillwell made his initial appearance in federal court in Mobile on Friday and waived his right to a preliminary hearing. Federal Defender Carlos Williams conceded a detention hearing was unnecessary since a Baldwin County judge set Stillwell's bail on state charges at $2 million. Williams said he would revisit the issue if the Baldwin judge reduces the amount and Stillwell is able to get a bond. Stillwell will remain at the Baldwin County Corrections Center where he has been since police arrested him Dec. 11 at a Loxley truck stop. A federal grand jury will consider whether to indict him in U.S. District Court. The woman told investigators that Stillwell punched her in the face after she rejected his invitation to ride with him to North Carolina. Stillwell tied the woman's hands together with zip ties, cut her clothes off with a knife and choked her to the point she passed out, according to the affidavit. If convicted of the federal kidnapping charge, the 47-year-old Hartville, Mo., man faces up to life in prison without parole. If the kidnapping is linked to a sexual assault, he likely would face a minimum of about 20 years under advisory sentencing guidelines. Police arrested Stillwell outside of Love's Travel Stop after a bound woman inside his truck honked the horn and yelled for help. The commotion attracted the attention of another trucker, who called 911. Authorities say Stillwell had abducted the woman three or four days earlier in Montgomery and raped her intermittently during his journey through several states. The affidavit alleges Stillwell kept her tied to the truck and the woman told investigators she remembers traveling through North Carolina, South Carolina and through Florida on Interstate 10. Williams said he met Stillwell for the first time only moments before Friday's hearing and could not comment on the case. [/quote] TheTrucker |
