CB Radio Conversation Led to Trucker's Stabbing Death

CB Radio Conversation Led to Trucker's Stabbing Death
12/31/07
Quote:
SCIO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Washtenaw County sheriff's department says a 44-year-old man was stabbed to death at a Scio Township truck stop Saturday after a conversation on a CB radio led to a confrontation.
The department tells The Ann Arbor News officers got a call Saturday to the TA Travel Center in Scio Township, about 35 miles west of Detroit.
They say Gregory A. Hobalt of Davenport, Iowa, was pronounced dead at the University of Michigan Hospitals.
Authorities are holding a 36-year-old man from Garland, Texas, while they determine charges.
They say the suspect apparently made offensive comments on the CB radio about the 10-year-old daughter of Hobalt's girlfriend.

I'm getting fed up. I wonder how this is helping the image of truck drivers. And the truckers aren't doing anything to help themselves. Everytime I turn on my CB it's always people talking trash to each other or somebody implying something criminal like "Tell me where you are so I can bash your face in." I imagine the good truckers just keep that sucker turned off? Or is this the norm for the industry? And now somebody is dead because somebody else had to be a prick and insult a ten-year-old girl of all things.

I haven't listened to the CB longer than a few minutes at a time just for this reason. Too many morons on the radio. But the truth is, it ISN'T just truckers. It is many bored stupid unemployed locals who have nothing better to do than raise heck on the CB.

Agreed!
It's other people besides truckers on the CB.

I can testify to that as there is this person near Battle Creek that I would like to, well never mind! He is a local and drives me nuts with his 24/7 non stop talk on the CB!

Too bad they couldn't make it where only professionals can use the cb and not just any local yokel. Might help if these idiots couldn't get on there. Now I know that wouldn't stop everything because there are also idiot truckers out there, just might help a little.

My feelings exactly, I remember the days of carrying on a good conversation with a few neighbors hauling butt down the road, still keeping in contact with bear warnings. Rolling into a town with your load getting dead on directions. It's rough out there anymore, i keep it squelched out and turned down.
