| I've been out of the business for ten years and WOW! Anti-idle laws everywhere. I've seen the IdleAire thing mentioned a few times and just now looked it up on the web... all I can say is WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!!! Now truck drivers have to pay even more to sleep comfortably? I remember not liking it when I had to run the east coast or the Communist Republic of California, where just to find a place to park was $10. So my questions are: 1. How much does this IdleAire thing cost? 2. Do the trucking companies pick up the tab for this? ![]() It raises my blood pressure and makes me want to get a cussing infraction when legislators come up with some BS law that creates a whole useless industry to take even more money out of the pockets of truck drivers. Put the cost where it belongs--the consumers who buy the products that the trucks bring. Now before I get my CDL back and apply for a job, I'm gonna have to search out companies that: 1. Have APU's installed on all their trucks. 2. Don't go to the Communist Republics of: a. California b. NYC (Ok... NYC ain't communist, but I'm not fond of going there) c. California d. California Hell, I'm feeling like goin' on strike before I even get started! |

| Some companies pay for IdleAire, some do not. A couple companies with APUs are Watkins Shepherd, Wal Mart, and Prime among I'm sure others.

I'm going to introduce some new legislation... SB-1987969 Section 1. This act shall be known as, and may be cited as, the Trucker's Revenge Act. Section 2. The truck drivers of America find and declare all of the following: (a) Truck drivers delivering goods to the Communist Republic of California, are entitled to a level of comfort in their trucks, equal to that of the homes of the idiots who make the laws in California. (b) Legislators in the Communist Republic of California have passed laws regarding a non-programmable auto-shutdown feature of diesel engines in big trucks. (c) Commencing January 14, 2008, all new homes built for legislators the Communist Republic of California shall be equipped with an automatic Gas, Utilities & Electric Shutdown System--hereafter known as GUESS. (d) GUESS will automatically shutdown all utilities to the home five minutes after anyone enters. (e) In cases of inclement weather, where the ambient temperature is below -70 F or above 350 Kelvin, the occupants may restore utilities for a maximum of 35 seconds, after which all services will be cut off for indeterminate amount of time which is hereafter referred to as Anyone's GUESS. (f) It is understood that people who sweat profusely, due to extreme ambient temperatures, stink like a grizzly bear. All legislators must be retrofitted with a sweat vapor recovery system, to be installed no later than Jan. 14, 2008. Failure to comply with this law will result in a $25,000 fine and/or 10 years in prison. |
