This part of the US has frequently given the NON local company the short end of the stick when it comes to paying a decent rate for freight.

When the locals go out of business, and the others STILL refuse to come there. What do you think will happen then. Higher freight rates maybe???

Will their customer base dry up from lack of inventory?

Will they move?

Who cares.

more weight is not the answer. our roads are already being torn up by over weight trucks!!!!!!raise rates to match what the prices of food and other goods have already gone up!!!freight rates are still the same or even lower than 5 years ago!!! when are people going to wake up and realize what's going on!!!! EVERY THING ELSE EXCEPT FREIGHT RATES HAVE GONE UP!!!!!!!!WHAT'S SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT THAT!!!!!?????? People,do your PAPER WORK!!! If you can't add or subtract , find someone who CAN!!!! In the 70's we used to make the yearly 1000mile trip there for $10 trailer tags.If you load at LP in Houlton on christmas eve be sure to have enough fuel and eats to get back to NYC(civilalation).Maine claims to be vacationland but they dont cater to outsiders and are backward thinkers.High fuel is the least of there problems.Suppose there busy enough fighting nature.Oshkosh by Gosh

Let them go out of business? sure I agree with you when you say most freight comming out of there is cheap freight.. But do you really think they will have to raise freight rates?

Heck no they will NOT raise freight rates...
THIS IS WHAT THEY WILL DO

They will push thier legislation for foreign truckers, claiming there is a shortage of truck drivers and they can't move thier freight... When we know the real reason is they need to raise the rates...

So, they will never raise it just look for people who will and that's foreign labor... Nobody on our side to help explain the real reason they will not pull there cheap freight..

Bottom line...
I would rather local AMERICANS pulling the cheap freight then pushing washington for foreign labor....

Their fuel prices are not any higher than Illinois. I filled up there on the way back from Newfoundland.

A mere 5% increase in weight capacity probably won't gain them enough to be worth messing with!!!! Certainly won't improve their fuel situation.

It's called competition, and it makes the cost of most goods and services cheaper over time. Competition in the industry is good for everyone, as it makes the economy more efficient as a whole and your dollars will go farther in the long run. When it comes to foreign labor, all I can say is you have no right to a job, and competition is not easy. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
