The City Council approved a measure Monday to increase the fines for truckers driving on nondesignated roads.

The original one-page ordinance was replaced Monday with more than two pages of new rules.

Mayor Darryl Lindberg said the new rules also closed a loophole in the law that might have allowed for some semis to be parked in residential areas overnight.

Designated truck routes in the city include: North Second Street; East Riverside Boulevard; Forest Hills Road; Harlem Road; Landstrom Road between Forest Hills and North Second; Boylston Street; Beacon Street; East Pearl Avenue between North Second and Hollis Avenue; Hollis between East Pearl and River Lane; Lawn Drive from Hollis east to Walker Avenue; River Lane between North Second and Forest Hills; Walker Avenue from Lawn Drive to East Riverside; Windsor Road between North Second and Forest Hills; Clinton Road from Windsor to Evans Avenue; Nimtz Road from Forest Hills Road to east city limits; Commercial Avenue; Range Road; Alpine Road; McFarland Road; Industrial Avenue; Industrial Court; Pike Road; Forest Hills Court; Crest Hills Drive; Material Avenue; Contractors Drive; Torque Drive west of Forest Hills Road; Rock Valley Parkway; Interstate Drive; Commerce Drive; Starwood Drive; and Bell School Road.

The new fines range from $100 to $500, replacing the former $25 minimum.

The council also voted to allow Police Chief Pat Carrigan to seek bids for new squad cars.
