Louisiana bridge will likely be closed for weeks Louisiana bridge will likely be closed for weeks 2/5/08 Quote:
ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. — Problems with a bridge on U.S. Highway 61 have forced closure of the bridge and rerouting of traffic.
The bridge just north of River Bend Power Station Road in West Feliciana Parish will remain closed until a more complete inspection and repairs can be completed.
The bridge spans the spans the West Fork of Grant's Creek. A section of the stream bank near one end of the short bridge collapsed, causing a thick concrete wall and other parts of the supporting structure to move toward the middle of the creek.
"We know at a minimum it will be closed for several weeks," state transportation department spokesman Mark Lambert said.
The bridge already is scheduled to be replaced when the highway is widened from two lanes to four from Thompson Creek through St. Francisville to Bains. Clearing of the rights of way for the widening project was finished last year, and the Department of Transportaion and Development expects the project will be bid in April, according to the agency's Web site.
State police and DOTD said heavy truck traffic is being detoured via La. 10 east of St. Francisville and La. 68, which intersects with La. 10 in Jackson and with U.S. 61 in the Port Hudson area.
Cars are allowed to detour via La. 966 and La. 965, which intersect with each other and with U.S. 61. http://www.thetrucker.com/News/Stori...dforweeks.aspx | |
