swift raided by FBI Memphis Trucking Company Investigated by FBI Last Edited: Monday, 25 Feb 2008, 4:12 PM CST Created: Monday, 25 Feb 2008, 1:32 PM CST By Cori Lake NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WHBQ FOX13 myfoxmemphis.com) --- -- FBI agents spent Monday morning searching a Memphis trucking company which has an international reach to Mexico and Canada, although what they are looking for remains a secret Monday night. However, FOX13 does know that search warrants were served at the commercial driving school at Swift Transportation on East Brooks Road Monday. First thing Monday morning, FBI agents were at Swift Transportation executing search warrants and employees said agents took computers with them. It's business as usual for the trucking company, but not for the drivers license center that's located there for the truck drivers. Even though FBI agents spent the day on the Swift Transportation property, it's still a mystery as to what they were looking for. Phone calls to Swift Transportation and to the FBI went unanswered. However, the Department of Safety did say that search warrants were issued for the Department of Safety's part-time drivers' license center, which is located at the Swift facility. The Department of Safety said it has temporarily suspended issuing commercial drivers' licenses to truck drivers at the Memphis Swift Transportation location until the fbi investigation is complete. Memphis is the hub for Swift Transportation and is open 24 hours a day. All night travel for Swift truckers across the country is monitored there. According to the company's web site, Swift also owns a Mexican based carrier called Nuevo Laredo and offers crossing services at all major Mexican border check points. The company also makes deliveries to every Canadian province. In addition to the FBI investigation, a number of other agencies are working with the FBI, including immigration and customs.

At my current orientation with BTC, I was told by the safety trainer (former DOT) that Swift Transportation was, as of today, completely SHUT DOWN (no further dispatching) due to safety violations. And it was the DOT that shut them down, not the FBI. This appeared to be misinformation. Only a portion of their division, their driver's license division or perhaps even their training division that leads up to the testing out for the drivers license was shut down. And I checked DOT website and SAFER web for changes in company snapshot MC # 136818 and it appears that as of 2/23/2008 everything is fine. But a separate search for out of service turned up empty. So far the entire carrier operations being shut down completely (no more dispatching) was in fact just a rumor. Shame on BTC.

| FBI raids Swifts CDL school in Memphis?? I have seen their "trailers" in the Memphis area. Everything is printed in Spanish. Are they illegally licensing illegals? hmmmmm, makes one wonder.

Thats a lot of depts looking at them. The video I watched said the investigation stemmed from a accident in Ohio where an illegal was driving a truck and killed 9 ppl. But to have that many ppl involved makes me wonder if they werent already being investigated?

Federal agents swarmed a trucking company in Memphis and Millington Monday, but their focus may have been on Tennessee's unusual driver's license center operating inside the firm. They are looking into fake licenses being issued out of that office. It just so happens to be on Swift property. Atleast according to the current news reports

That being said, no I don't see Swift hiring illegals in mass. Though that terminal in particuliar seems to be segregated..... and is spoked of in a hushed tone around the rest of the company, as the terminal that hates white boys.
