MHP Cracks Down on Bad Truck Drivers

MHP Cracks Down on Bad Truck Drivers

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is putting the brakes on aggressive driving. Officers nailed bad drivers along Interstates 55, 20, and 10.
The operation focused not only on commercial vehicles but also on 18-wheelers.

At the weigh station in Vicksburg Wednesday, MHP officers inspected several trucks and their drivers in an effort to keep our roads safe.
"For the safety of the highway for people traveling on the highway that these trucks maintain their log books and the maintenance of their vehicles," said Sergeant Jack Coffie.

Officers checked tires, brakes, and signals... and made sure drivers had up to date insurance, registration and log books.
"No violations, no infractions or anything," said Frederick Walker.
Walker has been driving trucks for the past 15 years. After being cited in the past for not updating his log book, he makes sure to keep an accurate record of his time behind the wheel.
"Your log book keeps you to whereas you won't be driving and you're sleepy," said Walker.

Sleepy drivers are only one of the many factors that lead to deaths of more than 40-thousand Americans.
Truck driver Cindy Martin is carrying a load of beverages from Ft. Worth, Texas to Chattanooga, Tennessee. She factors in time for inspections...and has her furry friend to keep her company.

"I got six grand babies at home and I expect to make it home so I don't push it I try to stay legal," Martin said.
Wednesday's operation landed nearly a dozen drivers in hot water.
