Stopsign Oil Prices Surge to New Record High on OPEC

Oil Prices Surge to New Record High on OPEC
3/5/08
Quote:
NEW YORK -- Oil surged Wednesday, rising a remarkable $5 a barrel to a new record over $104 a barrel after the government reported a surprise drop in crude oil stockpiles and OPEC held production levels steady.

Most analysts had expected the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration to report oil supplies rose last week for the eighth straight time. Instead, they fell by 3.1 million barrels.

In Vienna, meanwhile, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries said it would hold production levels steady, at least for now.
The EIA report and OPEC announcement fed a new frenzy of investing in oil futures, which have risen to new inflation-adjusted records this week as the falling dollar drew new investors to the market.

Light, sweet crude for April delivery jumped $4.65 a barrel to $104.17 on the New York Mercantile Exchange after earlier rising to $104.56, a new trading record, and appeared poised to move higher. Earlier this week, oil prices broke the previous inflation-adjusted price record of $103.76, set in 1980 during the Iran hostage crisis.

Oil Advances to Record $105.97 as Dollar Drops to All-Time Low
3/6/08
March 6 (Bloomberg) -- Crude oil rose to $105.97 a barrel, the third day this week New York prices have reached a record, as the U.S. dollar fell to its lowest ever against the euro.

Gold and copper also advanced to all-time highs as the sinking dollar made commodities priced in the U.S. currency cheaper. Oil closed at a record yesterday after U.S. crude inventories fell for the first time in eight weeks and OPEC refrained from raising production.

Yep, the economy is really going to start crumbling now. What a shame our government would allow us to get into this position.

the largest bad business practice that I can think of is NAFTA. You know maybe it is time for the rag h**ds to start paying for their own security and possibility for some of these countries to start paying us back for all the money and lives spent defending them, going back oh say 75 years, after all we kept most of them from having to learn a new language like German or Japanese.

And they are correct. Kind of ironic isnt it? The price of oil is directly linked to the value of the dollar. The decline of the dollar is linked directly to our deficit spending and our deficit spending is linked directly to the war.
Remember when all the libs were screaming we went to war "to get their oil"?
