Trucking companies fall sharply, Bear Stearns downgrades Werner Enterprises Trucking companies fall sharply, Bear Stearns downgrades Werner Enterprises 3/12/08 New York Quote: Shares of truckers fell sharply Wednesday after a Bear Stearns analyst lowered the outlook for the group, saying the sector is "likely ahead of its itself." The brokerage lowered its first-quarter earnings estimates by an average of about 21% for the six truckload carriers under its coverage, including Celadon Group Inc., Covenant Transportation Group Inc., Heartland Express Inc., Hunt JB Transportation Services Inc., Knight Transportation Inc., and Werner Enterprises Inc., citing continued lackluster pricing, higher fuel costs and weather. The firm also downgraded Werner Enterprises to underperform from peer perform. In a note to clients, analyst Edward Wolfe said that shares of truckload and less-than-truckload carriers have outperformed the broader market this year.
