Trucker suing over cargo: two tons boxed marijuana

Trucker suing over cargo: two tons boxed marijuana
3/21/08
Greensboro News Record, NC
Quote:
GREENSBORO — Truck driver Wilson Tussey III says he spent seven days in a Texas jail in 2006 for picking up cargo labeled Styrofoam cups.
Turns out he was hauling nearly 4,000 pounds — that's 2 tons — of marijuana. Not sure how big that is? Picture two Volkswagen Beetles. Or a great white shark.

The charges against Tussey were later dropped, pending further investigation, according to federal court records.
Tussey is now suing Greensboro-based Cox Motor Express and Schneider National and Schneider National Carriers of Green Bay, Wis., the companies that hired him. He says in a lawsuit filed March 5 in Guilford County Superior Court that he didn't know what he had been sent to haul. He says the companies should have known the load was illegal.

Tussey and Cox Motor Express did not return a call Thursday. A Schneider National spokeswoman said she could not discuss pending litigation.
A Border Patrol agent stopped Tussey on Dec. 12, 2006, at the Sarita, Texas, immigration inspection point, court documents show. He had picked up his cargo about 100 miles south of there, outside a doughnut shop in McAllen, Texas, just across the border with Mexico.

The agent reported that Tussey acted overly friendly and appeared worried when she asked about his cargo. Court records show that a search found the drugs in 583 bundles, which were wrapped in cellophane in boxes marked as containing Styrofoam cups.

Kinda what I was thinking.

I've had 2 level 3 inspections since the first of the yr. With two that close together a guy remembers similarities. The questioning from the officers is glaringly obvious they are trying to trap you in a lie.

Could have just been a conveniant drop and hook point for the Mexican driver that couldn't come into the states. I'm sure this happends more than we know coming from Mexico. I believe Schnieder more than likely didn't know about the extra cargo... I don't know about Cox.
