Tow Truck Driver Takes Sleeping Child for Ride

Tow Truck Driver Takes Sleeping Child for Ride

Quote:
Dallas police have arrested a tow truck driver who they said towed off a car with a child inside even as the child's mother ran after the truck.

The mother had parked outside of her west Dallas apartment in a fire lane last night in the 4500 block of W. Davis. She was taking items inside the apartment when the tow truck pulled up, according to police.

The woman had left the driver's side door open and her son sleeping in the back seat.

She told police she wasn't away from her car for long when she saw the tow truck pulling away with her vehicle. The woman ran after the truck as it drove away but the driver didn't stop.

A friend called police and a short time later, the tow truck driver returned to the complex with the car still in tow. Police witnessed the driver quickly unhook the car and drive away, but officers caught up with him a short time later.

The child was still asleep in the back seat and was unharmed.

Police arrested Fidel Retana, 23, and charged him with endangering a child.

This is BS. She should go to jail for leaving her kid alone in a car. Anyone could have snatched that kid in seconds. Second she parked in a fire lane. Hmmmm, tow truck driver takes car that's illegaly parked, no #####, that's his job. But he shouldn't have brought the car back and just left. He probably wouldn't be in any trouble if he would have explained to the police.

I understand your feelings, I have three children of my own. But I remember when they were little how much easier it was to let them sleep while we unloaded the groceries. Granted, I didn't live in an apt. complex. I'm not sure what the tow truck driver was doing just dropping the car and booking like that (maybe he wasn't supposed to be there, or maybe he, himself had ill intentions for the child?) but, I think the police did the right thing by arresting him.

Tow company he worked for may have had a contract with the Apartment
Complex to tow away illegally parked cars.Maybe just doing his job, but common sense tells the driver to LOOK in the car first. Too many things not done right here and not enough info to really understand the whole
situation at present. But your right, BOTH PARTYS to blame.

Still the old phrase for us truckers applies here--- G.O.A.L.

Right on. I hope their child protective service take a look at mom here. You don't leave a child in a car. She left it long enough for the tow driver to hook it up. No excuse.

No excuse for the tow trucker driver either.
