Sounds like it's time to put this idea on the back burner for a while. Fuel prices have dropped which is helping truckers and companies out, but the economy is way down, so that is off-setting the drop in fuel. Give the truck and bus companies more time to get things retro fitted. swapping out an engine is a lot more expensive than changing light bulbs.

When I ran dumps I qualified for some relief to off-set the cost of a new rig or re-power. Now that I run interstate the Moyer Program no longer applies...well that's how the "cookie crumbles".

According to everything I have read or the meetings I have attended regarding CARB regs,
I was under the impression I had 2 years left.
Well now I'll have to find a way to get a rig that will be compliant...sooner.

Ok, here's the plan...I need all of your help to gang up on my wife and help me to convince her. Both of my kids would love to move to UT, MT, WY, or CO.
I figure y'all can wear her down.......eventually......

My vote is for one of the first three! I rule out Colorado because of the Broncos. They are the same division as my team, so there's my lame reasoning for that one. They are all beautiful states without the expense like CA is, without the smog of LA, I'll bet the crime rates are lower too.All four states have mountains, snow, and probably cows too!

Is it helping?

That could definitely make things a bit trickier there! The textbook thing, not the mountains!

I just finished up an article from CDTOA (California Dump Truck Owners Association) regarding CARB's plan.

For Small fleets of 1-3 trucks, they may purchase 2004-2006 engines with DPF's instead of purchasing new trucks to be compliant. The CDTOA has been attending along with legal counsel all of the workshops and meetings since the beginning, so they are familiar with every aspect of CARB's plan for direction and enforcement. One thing that distresses CDTOA is the fact that CARB does acknowledge the displacement of jobs due to their enforcement, but CARB considers the job losses for O/O's insignificant to the losses of life and health problems as a result of diesel particulates and NOx in the air. Originally I had until 2013...well that's changed and since CA is broke and one of the ways it can recive money from the feds is to enforce environmental laws to the fullest.
As it is now, I can't sell my T-8 because nobody who wants to run in CA will buy it and in a year, no one from CA will want to buy my Pete. The sad part is that both rigs are in great shape and could pass the smoke test that CA required pre-CARB. CARB considers both a health hazard and would condemn them to the scrap heap.

OK now it's getting more frustrating as I research the whole CARB fiasco...

That's what it is, a friggin' FIASCO.

There were funds available from the passage of Proposition 1B that would allow up to $50K to replace an older (pre 2006 model rig) with a newer one or new rig; up to $20K for a re-power...but the funds are currently shut down.

Now get this...
On CARB's website they recognize that shippers are not responsible for a carrier's truck but if your rig is not "legal", CARB will place the responsibility on the shipper not to give you the load!!!!!

The more I read, the more I am getting pizzed off....

I thought that by acquiring some knowledge on the subject I would be better prepared to deal with what's ahead and not react reflexively.....

CARB and the State Legislators both could care less that the small O/O's will certainly go out of business because of their environmental zealousness.
