Califonia getting tougher on trucks

This just in...

Air board OKs nation's toughest diesel rules

Truckers, schools fear economic toll

By Michael Gardner 6:00 a.m. December 13, 2008

SACRAMENTO – Angelo Logan says he has watched too many of his Los Angeles-area neighbors suffer from respiratory problems he blames on breathing truck-diesel soot.
“They talk about the value of jobs,” Logan said as the California Air Resources Board yesterday heard hours of testimony on proposed regulations to curb diesel emissions. “What about the value of life?”
In the end, the regulators came down on Logan's side, unanimously adopting the nation's toughest standards to gradually clear the skies of soot, despite fears that it will drive many truckers out of business.

My grandfather passed in 1990.. and he said something, way back then, that I think applies now. When they established the first smog laws, he siad they would go too far one day, and that when he moved here this valley was barely starting to grow out of being a barren wasteland... He quoted the Bible..

"From dust they were formed, and to dust they will return..."

The man was right. Nearly 20 years ago.

The powers that be are going to regulate that state right out of existence.

I think now is a good time to build a bunch of shipping warehouses on the east side of their borders. All other trucks deliver here, California sends theirs to the other side of the building.

I like your thinking there! They can come carry the stuff home on their backs. We have to get Ron and GuysLady out of there first though.

I don't care how they do it. They can get the special trucks or green ideas. Leave the rest of us alone.

most of these regs are on hold - the state said it would pay up to 70% of a retrofit (or whatever the word is for putting a new engine in an old chassis) - BUT the state is broke - so rules have to wait.

They said that enacting them right now today would force well over 2500 small company owners into bankruptcy -

I have a buddy who is nervous about all of this since he can not legally SELL his truck in Cali right now if he wanted out - (due to it being a mechanical cat) - and he can not afford the 20K for a new emission friendly motor and brain box.
