Trucking companies passing on fuel costs as prices climb

Trucking companies passing on fuel costs as prices climb

5/6/08

New York Daily News, NY
Quote:
Truck drivers reeling from the skyrocketing price of fuel are pushing those extra costs down to their customers.
Delivery trucks are increasing the amount of fuel surcharges on their invoices.
In some cases, they're adding the charge for the first time.

"We're seeing it pretty much on all our invoices, and it's increasing," said Will Regan, who owns about a dozen restaurants in the city, including Country and Los Dados. "It's really starting to accelerate in the last few months," said Regan. "Every single one of them has gone up."
He said an April invoice for a food delivery showed a $2.28 fuel surcharge.
The next month it was $2.49.
"That's pretty rapid," he said.

Truckers Facing Difficult Times
5/6/08
89.7 WUWM - Milwaukee Public Radio, USA
Quote:
Gas prices across the country hit record highs this spring. The average price of a gallon of regular is around $ 3.64 across the state, but compared to the cost of diesel that’s not so bad. Trucking companies say skyrocketing fuel prices and a slowing economy are starting to take a toll.

Imagine pulling up to the pump getting out to fill up and realizing it’s going to cost you around than $4.23 a gallon. While some experts speculate that’s where we’re headed, it’s already the reality for truckers and trucking companies across the state.

“Rising fuel prices have caused fuel to actually become our number one expense.”
