Illinois Rt. 7 Project Requires Bridge Closure

Illinois Rt. 7 Project Requires Bridge Closure
5/12/08
Quote:
The Illinois Rt. 7 Bridge between Lockport and Romeoville will be closed in both directions for a resurfacing project until the end of August.

The Illinois Department of Transportation will establish two marked detour routes during the closure, one for cars less than 13 feet, 4 inches in height; and one for trucks or vehicles more than 13 feet, 4 inches. The detour for cars will be south via IL Rt. 171 and IL Rt. 53 through Joliet; the detour for trucks will be to the north, via IL Rt. 171 and IL Rt. 53 to 135th St.

The closure of IL Rt. 7 will extend from Canal St. on the east side to 9th St. on the west side. Only local traffic will be permitted west of IL Rt. 171 and east of IL Rt. 53 on Rt. 7.

The purpose of the project is to resurface and rehabilitate the approximately half mile long bridge. The project will extend the life of the bridge and delay the need for a costly reconstruction project.
