CHEYENNE -- The American Trucking Association's national Share the Road highway-safety tour came to Cheyenne Monday in time for the annual Memorial Day weekend launch of the summer driving season.

"Let's face it. Most of us are not comfortable passing a truck or sharing the road with a truck," said Shelia Foertsch, managing director of the Wyoming Trucking Association.

But the economy of the state is reliant on truckers.

Foertsch said 16,140 jobs -- one out of 17 -- in Wyoming depend on the trucking industry.

In 2005, she said, truckers paid $220 million in state and federal taxes and road fees -- 67.4 percent.

Passing campers and motor homes worry me pretty bad.THey seem to weave all over the road and a lot of the time they will be towing a car on a trailer with a boat towed behind the other trailer most likely without trailer brakes.I have also seen people towing a camper behind a front wheel drive mini van talk about scarry.
