ATA again urges Congress to enhance drug, alcohol testing for drivers

ATA again urges Congress to enhance drug, alcohol testing for drivers
5/22/08
Quote:
The American Trucking Associations on Wednesday, May 21, again called on Congress to support the industry's efforts to enhance drug and alcohol testing for the nation’s 3.4 million truck drivers.

“Trucking has worked diligently to eradicate drug and alcohol abuse from its work force,” says Bill Graves, ATA president and chief executive officer. “And we’ve made great progress in recent years. But we are requesting additional help from the government since it is a federally-required program involving significant federal oversight. Today’s release of a Government Accountability Office report confirms the need for what ATA has been recommending for many years — a national database of drug and alcohol test results.”

Not me. But I'm more concerned about what the companies will use it for, and how they will use it.

We've all seen how they have used DAC.

Unless they put criminal and civil penalties for companies that make false reports...I'm against it.

Screw my "drug report" up. It's gonna be worth about $500K to me. Just my thoughts.

In Canada there is no such thing as employment drug testing. We value our freedoms too much to allow such invasive things to be done to our citizens. There should be some sort of minimum evidence required before such testing is allowed. It should take a warrant signed by a judge before anyone can take any kind of body fluids, fingerprints, etc. America has long thought of itself as the most free country in the world. The federal government of the United States is in the process of taking away the most important freedoms that exist in a democracy. You can be arrested by secret police. Held indefinitly without charge, have all your private communications listened to by agents of the state without warrant. Be tried convicted and jailed by a secret court. All this in the name of National Security. This sounds a lot more like National Socialism as in the NSCAP or more common name of Nazism. You know we could have a very safe society with the state having their boot on everybodies neck. Well this would only apply to the common people of course. The elite, now that is a different story. If they steal, murder and pillage they are doing it to preserve the security of the state. Everyone knows and accepts that, right

I've got a few crazy Canuks as friends. And I can certianly say, they have it much better when it comes to the BS we have to deal with. And the majority are better drivers too. Dope smokers or not.

You don't spend too much time getting high or drunk, if you run the western regions and the ice roads. Although they may do it the week before, while on break. I'm not concerned about it. Because there is no way in #### your still high 4-6 days later.

But America has just gotten completely anal about it. And we "supposedly" have the most advanced medical services in the world. Along with advanced test labs...yeh right.
