GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. — The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) said in a news release that it’s grateful an amendment that will protect truckers and tax payers from being exploited by intermediaries in the trucking industry has been included in the Defense Authorization Bill.


The amendment stipulates that for any Department of Defense contract for truck transportation or service using fuel, the motor carrier or broker must pass any fuel surcharge on to the person responsible for paying the cost of the fuel and to disclose that surcharge.

And, they (OOIDA) bought it.

Make nice...and if we're good enough. They may give us what we REALLY need. Enforcement ACROSS the industry. Not just defense contracts.

what about the other owner-operators do we get the full compensation of the fuel sur-charge????Not everyone hauls for the defense. brokers have the nerve to offer $1.00 per mile when at the diesel prices cost the owner at least .95 per mile now. its not easy to go directly to shipper for loads they don't want to fool with single owner-operator. when you ask about sur-charge they lie and say its in the rate bull crap!!! something has got to give here. they need to start drilling here now I know trees are important and they can be replanted some where else the farmers where bought out years ago with tobacco and they were well compensated. I wish the government would offer to buy me out!!! nobody cares about the small trucker who struggled all his life to have a nice truck and stayed away from family worked day and night to make a good living and have something to leave for his children. the h*** with us we will be replaced by big big trucking co's
