Require truckers to know English

Require truckers to know English

Quote:
The Chinese language is ancient, elegant and, of all the tongues of the human race, it has the most speakers.

The Spanish language is vibrant, expressive and a treasured part of the heritage of the Western World.

Vietnamese, Russian, Hindi, Urdu and all the languages that immigrants bring to the United States are fine, respectable forms of communication and none of them will be much use to a truck driver trying to navigate the tangle of highways and byways that form the United States motor vehicle transportation system.

Our road signs are in English.

Handing out licenses to people who can’t read our road signs is tomfoolery.

We saw that on Monday when a driver, who speaks Chinese and doesn’t understand English, went under our infamous Cressona Railroad bridge which creates a 11’ 8” clearance. The truck, carrying Chinese food, got stuck and was damaged.

You don't need to know the English language to get a drivers license in New York state? That's crazy and scary. That's like giving a blind man a scalple to perform brain surgery.

Requiring CDL holders to be able to read and speak enough english to interact with law enforcement and read road signs is already in the FMSCA rules.

Talked with a Fl. State trooper a couple of years ago and he told me that Jeb Bush issued an order to forgo the requirement of the English language on cdl holders. The trooper told me that he had only two more years on the force and he was "out of there".
