Truck driver arrested for bridge spill Truck driver arrested for bridge spill 6/5/08 Beaufort Gazette, SC - Quote: A 50-year-old dump truck driver was arrested for spilling a load of loose asphalt all over the Broad River bridge on Wednesday morning, bringing traffic to a standstill. Luther Chaplin of St. Helena was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and charged with spilling a load and driving with a suspended license, according to a Sheriff's Office report. Chaplin said he was traveling northeast over the bridge when the latch on the bed of his dump truck malfunctioned, spilling a "large quantity" of asphalt into the bridge's right-hand lane, the report said. Traffic was diverted around the spill, which damaged at least one car. A Ridgeland woman filed a report with the Sheriff's Office saying that she drove her father's 2000 Dodge Caravan through the asphalt spill, cracking the car's windshield and causing unspecified damage to the grill. A check on Chaplin's license showed that it had been suspended for failure to pay traffic tickets. http://www.beaufortgazette.com/devel...ry/457940.html
