12-year-old becomes truck driver for a day

Quote:
On Friday afternoon, 12-year-old Paul Liu landed his first job — as an honorary truck driver for Wal-Mart.
The rising fifth-grader rode in the cab of the big rig with his parents and full-time Wal-Mart truck driver, John Simpson, on a drive around the parking lot at Sam’s Club in Auburn.
It was the first time Paul — who was all smiles throughout his brief journey — had ridden in a tractor-trailer.

That is a nice story. My son who is 14, say's he's going to be a truckdriver. He is spending his summer in the truck with daddy, and I know he's having a blast. Everytime he calls home, he's telling me how beautiful everything is, and how he wishes I could see it. However, that is not going to be happening for several years, so I told him to take lots of pictures for me.

When my father worked at the citrus plant, he was the night man in charge of shipping and recieving. One night, a familiar truck came in, and the driver was someone Dad had known for quite some time. The driver had his 10 year old nephew with him. The nephew had Stage 4 terminal bone cancer, and was paralyzed from the hips down.. The boy's dream was to be a truck driver... He rode all over the country for 2 weeks with his uncle, and they came back to Klink twice. Both times, the boy sat in Dad's lap, "helping" drive the forklift.. (We still have pictures of it!) Dad, the driver and the boy had the times of thier lives. Too bad they had to be so bittersweet. The boy passed on less than a week after he got home.

That is a bittersweet story. Thanks for sharing it. When you you think about how happy it must make those children, it just brings a tear to your eye.
