Pennsylvania allows half-gallon pricing at some fuel stations

Pennsylvania allows half-gallon pricing at some fuel stations
6/27/08
Quote:
With gas and diesel prices soaring above $4 a gallon in many areas in the state, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell is allowing older fuel pumps to display half-gallon prices if they apply for the proper permits.
The decision was made recently to allow the half-gallon pricing to accommodate some of the older, non-digital fuel dispensers in the state, which cannot compute prices above $3.99 per gallon.

That's just to weed out the people who are bad at math. It still adds up the same.

Oh wow. $2.18 per gallon.

NO! YOU'RE READING THAT WRONG!

Besides. Everybody's prices always end in a 9. How do you half that?

You know things are bad when fuel prices go beyond what an analog pump is capable of computing. People still use those dinosaurs?

And why don't they just get rid of that .9 crap. Who are they trying to fool anyway??? Just call it 3.99 or 4.02 or whatever.

They can spin it whatever way they like, but it is the speculators that are pouring big money in the oil markets and that will drive the price up.

I'd like to see all of a sudden demand drop like a rock and see those butt holes take a BIG bath.

Wait...

If the pump can't think over $3.99/gallon, how does changing the units to half-gallons help? $1.99/half is the same price as $3.99/gal, so wouldn't the pump still max out?

Or maybe they just can't think over $3.99/unit, and the unit can be gallons, halves or quarts.
