Lets say there are extenuating cirucumstances. They can be explained to an officer, he can make his observations and choose to give a ticket, a warning, or simply let a driver go. I was stopped for a speed limit problem. I politly explained why I did what I did and the officer gave me a warning. In another case I was fairly new to the an area and made a mistake. When stopped I plead my case to the officer. He let it go. Now I didn't know then that I would be looking for a driving job in the future. Had a camera taken a picture I wouldn't be able to do anything except wait for court, wasteing the courts time and mine with the explaination.. I wasn't going to explain but there it is for ya. Hope that helps. ![]() THE CAMERAS ARE FLAT OUT WRONG. Whats next a camera on you street turning and snooping into your garage or your home? Last edited by mannmk7; 07.18.2008 at 06.21 PM. |

| However, the radar won't trip the camera unless you're doing 10 MPH over the speed limit. This normally isn't something you're let off with a warning. And if there are still extenuating circumstances, you can plead your case in front of the judge. All that's happening here is removing the human element for traffic enforcement. There's absolutely no difference between getting nailed by the camera, or nailed by a human officer. And in using the cameras, officers are freed up to patrol elsewhere.

| I don't believe it will free up officers neither.. several scenarios may occur like cutting the force down (having less officer).. Both criminal and traffic are not there to break even, they make money off of it..... |

| My biggest problem with it is that it's run by a 3rd party. Businesses should not be allowed to profit from illegal activity, be it catching speeders or running jails. And you are not deprived of your right to due process. You have the option of appealing to a judge. Aside from an emergency, there is no situation in which you can justify speeding more than 10 over, and not paying attention to posted warning signs. For the mobile photo radar units they use orange signs, just like the ones for construction zones. If you miss that sign, and you're 10+ over, then you are just another inattentive driver on the road, and thereby a risk to the rest of us. Photo radar is another example of technology becoming a part of our lives, and it's only the beginning. Once more vehicles get on board with the toll pass systems, you'll start to see those used to monitor speed. I wouldn't be surprised to see it get to the point that if you have 3 infractions, within a set amount of time, that your vehicle shuts off and you have to appear in front of a judge for reinstatement. There is a real simple way in which to defeat photo radar. Pay attention and don't speed. |

Also, the 10mph over is not always the case either.I used to set my radar to warn me at 15 mph over in urban areas and 20 mph over in rural areas....If I stopped you at either of those numbers or above, you better be enroute to the hospital or you received a citation. No debate,no discussion. If you went out gung ho and set your trigger at 10 mph over, you would be sitting beside the road constantly writing tickets. 10 mph in the middle of town or in an area with a lot of merging traffic or cross intersections is one thing...in the middle of nowhere is an all together different deal.

| Our state is billions in debut. The cameras are another way to drum up revenue. And the gov. loves to support there case for adding cameras by scareing people by telling them about all the speeding and the dangers. |
