| $$$$$$$ A little basic math with rounded numbers to keep it simple can be quite an eye opener. If you are one of these lead foots who is constantly in excess of 70mph you would easily be able to get an extra 1 mile per gallon by slowing down to 60. If you have a 200 gallon capacity that is an extra 200 miles between fill ups. At 6 miles per gallon that is 33 gallons. At $4.85x33=$160 that you save per tank. If you fill up twice per week that equals $320 per week while on the road. If you are on the road 40 weeks per year that saves over $12,000 per year. That is $1,000/month in your pocket. |

| it's simple as driving at a speed you can afford, for those of us who purchase our own fuel, this will make a compelling argument. Driving faster does not get you there any faster to make any real difference, but it sure cost you more in your fuel cost and, your equipment up keep. |

| Yes you'll save on fuel mileage driving 55 versus 65 or 70. The amount of wind drag mulitplys quickly as speed increases, as well as rolling resistance from the side walls of the tires, mechanical resistance in the transmission, final drives, hubs, and the engine. 3.55 3.70 3.90 rear ends etc, all do better by driving slower. The gear settings and engine setup would have to have extreme parameter for fuel mileage to be better at 65mph versus 55mph. Apparantly none of you do your own IFTA filings or you have never ran 55 versus 65mph for at least a quarter to see the results. For the record I hate government intervention, however it's the haphazard comments that you guys have posted that cause government intevention. As one of you posted your p/u gets better fuel mileage driving 55 versus 65. It agrees with the laws of physics just like the big trucks will. I don't want to drive 55, hell my truck is wide open and the guy that pays the fuel bill doesn't care, but tell the facts, don't make up figures that you can't support. I know I will get a lot of flack for this, but untill you show me hard numbers, none of your comments will mean a thing for either me or the government. |

| Considering this thread is from JULY, I don't think fuel and gas prices are that much of a concern at the moment.

I think they should be though. I really don't believe they will not climb back up. |

What has cut the demand, which played a factor in the drop in oil prices? Less people driving their cars on long trips etc. People choosing more fuel efficient cars instead of gas hogs. Getting the public to drive 55 in their cars is not going to happen, since most of them can't stay within a posted speed limit anyway, no matter how high that posted speed limit is.

| Yes, this is not a time to get complacent. The price can easily jump back up if the global economy increases. |
