Roy Blunt pushes for 55-mph speed limit amid gas spike

Roy Blunt pushes for 55-mph speed limit amid gas spike

In the rush to counter high energy prices, it might be time to revive 55, Rep. Roy Blunt said Saturday.
As in the 55 mile-an-hour speed limit.
"I'm beginning to hear discussion of that for the first time," the Republican representing southwest Missouri in Congress said during a stop at the Fast n' Friendly convenience store on North Kansas Expressway.

65 is a more reasonable and efficient speed. Every rig I've ever driven got better around 63/65 than at 55.

Cars, trucks, semis etc.

I agree, I think 65 would be fair enough and WOULD help a lot to be sure...IF people actually do it that is. Guess the police would be really busy and make some good $$$ too, LOL. I thought it was funny where some states are adding a fuel surcharge to tickets, LOL. Guess it makes sense as they have to spend a LOT of gas running around all day long. One thing is for sure...75mph SUCKS the needle down pretty darn fast!

I should say ALMOST every rig.... this 86 F 150 will get 20 mpg at 55. 16 at 65.

Yeah butt you gotta admit that 75 in WY is much closer to the average speed.

I liked driving 70Mph in my truck... It seemed to be a very comfortable speed for me.. This is not a answer to the fuel issue.. another dumb ideal from our government.. I seen a statistic the other day how much this would save in fuel (total) and it was very low... basically you could get almost the same gain by just keeping your tires properly filled and rotated.. Do you really think that driving 55 mph will lower fuel cost? Another country like China would just buy the oil that we did not use and the fuel price would stay the same... This is what you get from government millionaires who are living far from reality...
