Michigan Business Tax adds to trucking companies' burdens

Michigan trucking companies say the Michigan Business Tax imposes a new cost burden on them even as they reel from rising diesel prices and slackened demand.
At issue are payments to contract haulers, which - unlike payroll costs and expenses for employees - are no longer deductible by trucking companies under the MBT.
In some cases, experts said, tax payments are increasing for trucking companies by 300 percent.
