Truck Student drivers learn why they should stay out of the 'no-zone'

Student drivers learn why they should stay out of the 'no-zone'

It looked like all the right ingredients for an accident: a UPS freight truck with a pickup on its right, a car on its left and another behind it.
But this static gathering of usually moving metal at Mandarin High School's summer driver education course was set up to prevent accidents withtrucks, not cause them.
As 30 students gathered in the steamy morning heat Monday, they learned the pickup and cars were in the truck's "no-zones" - big blind spots where another vehicle next to, behind or in front is invisible from the truck driver's view.

I second that... I will always say when it comes to driving education is the first step in curving the numbers of bad drivers on the road.. No, it will not eliminate bad drivers but our kids need to be taught better (perhaps a more stringent drivers ed requirement to get a licensed) Then because we are lazy we need to be constantly reminded of things and driving is no different.. I seen somewhere the number of kids being set out on the road with a brand new license, is almost going to double the amount of people on the road in the next 5-6 years.. This is where the greatest impact for safety of the roads can be taught, we should do everything we can to reach these kids to insure safe roads...

I agree. I forced both my boys to take drivers ed, and with this course, they have to take a defensive driving class as well. The more aware of situations they are, the better prepared they are when those situations come up.

I think that insurance companies encourage Drivers Ed. because we got a discount if they both took it, but they could make it a requirement, in order to insure the teen. Every little bit helps.
