Should we slow down?

Should we slow down?

8/3/08
News & Observer, NC
Quote:
The burden of $4 gas has forced Americans to cut back on driving, and some are slowing down to squeeze more miles out of every gallon. But that doesn't mean we're ready to slash the legal speed limit.
"People that are concerned about the relationship between driving faster and using more gas have every right to slow down on their own," Chatham County resident Mike Melone said via e-mail to The News & Observer.

Great to know others feel the same way I do... Companies always have the option to slow thier trucks down if they want as well...

Well, we have slowed down where I work, but I have to be honest here, I see NO big savings in fuel what so ever. It's about the same here as far as fuel being used.

I drive 60 mph in CA (don't narc me out to Smokey now) and when I run elsewhere I don't go crazy usually 70 tops. I get 5.9 MPG with that Pete so I'm not complaining.

There's a reason Ronald Reagan did away with the national 55 mph speed limit. It's not the federal government's responsibility. There's a reason we have state police forces and not an official US Federal Police. Yeah, we have the FBI and the CIA, but you won't see either of those organizations writing traffic tickets.

The slower I go ,the less likely I am to get where I need to be and the more likely I'll be idling. I think the loss in revenue of half the drivers missing that last load will kill the company. The jury's still out on that one.

on this load this saves fuel ,,then again something else saves fuel on the next load..i think we need to write a manual, look up what load we are pulling, and follow the steps for saving fuel on that particular load...............
