Toy picks up bawdy trucker talk

Mom claims toy picks up bawdy trucker talk
8/7/08
Huntington Herald Dispatch, WV
Quote:
HUNTINGTON -- Deborah Pancaro wasn't sure at first, but within a few minutes she was positive it wasn't cute little Diego's voice coming through the toy walkie talkie set she had just bought for her 3-year-old.
Instead, the voices coming through the plastic communicators bearing the likeness of Dora the Explorer's environment-friendly friend seemed to be those of truckers on CBs, Pancaro said. They were talking about everything from their sexual escapades to drug experiences, lacing the conversation with language typically reserved for a Quentin Tarantino script.

OMG! I gotta admit I'm sitting here laughing my butt off. I'd "recall" those walkie-talkies -- right from my child's hands and advise F-P that I'd like a refund for these little gems.

I just hope the mother doesn't over-react. Kids pick up the importance of things from the way their parents respond. She simply needs to answer his questions by explaining that "we don't talk that way in our house", brush off the sexual things by stating that it wasn't something appropriate for him to hear, and divert his attention. At that age, most kids will forget quickly and move on without a lot of fuss.

Whoa... see? Even when you don't want to be a role model, sometimes you're forced into it. LOL

I can remember back in the early 90's riding with an uncle when cell phones were new that some drivers could actually step on the cell phones with their powerful CB's.

Back in the 70's I had a CB in our station wagon and I had a couple of hand held CB's I used at work . My 14 year old brother in law was staying with us for the summer . One night we were about 30 miles from home and my brother in law crawled in the back of a station wagon and got under a blanket so his voice wouldn't carry in the car and used the hand held and pretended to be a trucker . He got my wife talking to him for a while then gave his 20 as being about a half mile behind us . The way he was talking started to scare my wife so when we made a left turn she said we turned right . He said "Oh , I turned left " . After this happened a few more turns and getting close to home my wife was really freaking out . Of course we had a base station too and I turned it on as my brother in law stayed outside and the "trucker " circled around within a block trying to find his C.B. honey .

Wal-Mart discontinues Fisher Price Walkie Talkie
8/15/08
Quote:
Fisher-Price has had a slew of recalls this year and perhaps they should add one more toy to the list. Deborah Pancaro of West Virginia contacted Fisher-Price after her three-year-old picked up a conversation that she believed to be between two truckers because they were saying stuff like 10-4.

What were the truckers talking about?

"They said we should go smoke some weed, and were talking about being in a strip bar, some really explicit things," Pancaro said Thursday.
