The best way to stop tractor-trailers from slamming into parkway overpasses, County Legislator Thomas Abinanti figures, is to block them from getting on the restricted roads in the first place.
Signs inform truck drivers that they're not allowed on the parkways, but often they miss or ignore the notices. And often, those trucks slam into bridges that are too low for them to pass under, as happened twice within 12 hours Sunday night and Monday morning when trucks on the Hutchinson River Parkway struck the King Street overpass by the Connecticut border.
