Lightbulb Troopers looking for unsafe big-rig drivers

Troopers looking for unsafe big-rig drivers
8/27/08
The Plain Dealer - cleveland.com, OH

Quote:
OHIO -- The State Highway Patrol will step up its efforts to take unsafe commercial drivers off Ohio's roads.
Today and Thursday, troopers will focus on stopping semitrailers to check drivers' credentials, medical cards and their hours of service, to make sure they've taken mandated time off.
From 2005 through 2007, commercial drivers were cited 4,421 times by the patrol for not having the proper driving credentials and 17,246 times for spending too many consecutive hours behind the wheel.

I suppose they could try and go back to writing speeding tickets with abandon, but I'm guessing the courts told them to not do that, unless they wanted to spend all of their time in court aiding the prosecution of said tickets.

Troopers should not target any specific group. They need to be out there looking for unsafe drivers -- period -- whether they be truckers, four-wheelers, or bikers. A bad driver is a bad driver, regardless of the vehicle s/he drives.

Actions such as these only serve to build resentment -- not cooperation -- among the various classes of drivers on the roads.
