What a joke. Indiana is a poor auce state, especially in the southern non-Marion County / Indy area!

Why the he11 do we need Mustangs, Camaro's, etc for police cars?

Do we actually have that many high speed chases that would justify needing such a car? Wouldn't a regular Police cruiser work in most cases? Talk about the fleecing of America!

I can imagine a cop pulling up to a stoplight in one of these Mustangs next to a tuner and revving his engine to egg on the other driver into a street race and then busting him for street racing.

Actually that happened to me once... wasn't a mustang nor was it at a stoplight... I was driving South on I65 back when Indiana had the camaro cop cars... One pulled up next to me and you could not tell it was a cop nor could you see in because it was night and it had tinted windows. He rev ed his engine a few times and kind of took off a little.. Well he did it several times finally I had it and dropped it down and gave it H#$.. Blew his doors off and he come running up to me and rolled his window down, it was a cop scared the crap out of me, he just flashed his badge and lights and gave me one of those slow down looks... So, ya they do that..

But he started it... Don't think that would fly in court...

This was a long long time ago when I was like 19 years old....

With the lights, radio equipment, in-car video camera, radar unit, and laptop computer, this adds around $16,000 per unit
These Mustangs are completely stock . The horsepower and suspension of the GT option are more than adequate . The extra cost is probably for lights and computerized ticket writing system . As for justifying cost , in June the officers in the original 18 Mustangs wrote 4,600 tickets . I'd post links but they all contained advertisements . I see a maroon one regularly working around the 85 mile marker on I-64 and there is usually a black and gold working the same area .

The links are posted on the tickets already.. where did you hear they was completely stock? I can already discredit that information because a stock mustang has a speed limiter on them... These don't and have been chipped thus not making them stock... an the stock drive shaft is only rated to 125 Mph so they need to swap those out as well....Again where are you basing your infomation on that they are stock?

And oh ya They also have a larger bore throttle body.. Stock? again where is your infomation coming from?

GOOGLE Mustang news article states there have been no engine modifications and it is just as Ford built it . Where did you get the info on them being chipped and having a larger bore throttle body ?

My bother in law who happens to be state trooper and drives one of these... (as stated in my first post) stock Mustangs are governed at 120Mph and these will do well over that, they require a chip to be able to allow the governor to be bypassed... As I Said the stock drive shaft is rated to 125Mph and they needed to swap that out as well.. Throttle body bore was to increase take off times that is important in any chase for obvious reasons...

This is all a waste of taxpayer cash. They could use any type vehicle for undercover operations to increase the ticket giving. Its the undercover part that is responsible, not the fact they have sport cars doing it.
As far as having a car for chasing bad guys, I still see no true need, I contend the same can be accomplished with a regular cruiser. Chases of excess speed also endanger the general motoring public, pushing an untrained criminal driver well past his abilities. I am all for catching bad guys, but do they really need a "cool" cop car to do it? Nope.
