Hauling not as hazardous in daylight

Hauling not as hazardous in daylight

Having spent several hours behind the wheel on vacation and back on the job after Labor Day, I recently mused about some highway annoyances that make it tougher to avoid a ticket.

For instance ... En route to work the other day, I was caught behind a big rig hauling a massive earthmover at about 10 mph escorted by a phalanx of Arizona DPS highway patrol cars. This started near Beale Street and I-40 about noon and continued on U.S. 93, then onto Highway 68 toward Bullhead City.
It was nearly 100 degrees and vehicles were lined up for miles behind the slow-moving metal beast of burden. After a slow trip through Golden Valley, the entourage stopped at the first turnout before Union Pass and the race was on.
