Washington State using automated cameras to fine work zone speeders
Quote:
Together with the Washington State Patrol, the Washington State Department of Transportation launched a pilot project this month utilizing automated speed enforcement cameras to cite motorists driving too fast through construction work zones. The first camera is in use in the Interstate 5 work zone south of Chehalis.

The automated traffic safety cameras are mounted in a small sport utility vehicle parked next to the highway. When in use, the camera records the rear license plate of vehicles speeding through the work zone. A $137 citation then is mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner.

Haven't other states tried things like this and failed miserably in court because they couldn't prove who was actually driving the vehicle?
