Illinois Tollway OKs long-range increase for truck tolls
Quote:
The Illinois Tollway Board of Directors on Thursday, Nov. 20, approved a plan to raise tolls on trucks by 60 percent. The toll increase for trucks will be phased in over 2015-2017. Beginning in 2018, tolls for trucks will be tied to the Consumer Price Index.

The approval for the toll increase for trucks comes four years after the Tollway increased truck tolls by as much as 300 percent, according to the Mid-West Truckers Association. Meanwhile, an increase for tolls on automobiles was not proposed by the Tollway. The last time the Tollway increased tolls on cars was in 1983, MTA says. MTA opposed the Tollway’s plan to place a toll increase entirely on the trucking industry and then raise truck tolls every year at the rate of CPI.

We should start cramming trucks on the US routes and let the cities cry about the traffic. Start dodging the Skyway and use I94 instead. I figured it's only an extra 4 miles or so.

It is. I run to Chicago a lot and there's ways around every tollway packed with trucks. I'm not paying the thieves a dime.

I live in Illinois and this is just sad... run up thru downtown Chicago I say and watch how fast Daley whines about all the truck traffic! Got hit with a 300 percent increase in 2005 and it's not good enough for them. Gotta come back and get us for more.

Illinois has that crooked tollway commission. All it does is bleed the road fund down in inflated salaries and bonuses. Now, they plan on raping the truckers.

I personnaly will stop using the tollway with my I pass before these come into play.

The commercial vehicles receive a break only during the wee hours of the morning for the rates.

Cars receive a reduced rate by getting the IPASS. This is just plain wrong.

I agree RM. I remember when they passed the first rate increase on trucks Blago the crook said right on TV "ANY TRUCK WITH IPASS WILL NOT GET HIT WITH THE INCREASE" The day before the increase went into affect what did he do? "Oh I never said that, they just won't go up as much."

I can see trucking companies telling their drivers go up thru downtown and then up 41 to get to Wisconsin and back, talk about a nightmare for traffic.

My company pays the tolls when I am loaded. But when I am empty returning for the next load, it is out of my pocket.

I usually find ways to avoid the tolls.

Unless I absolutely have too, I always run thru town and up 41. 12 or 13 lights, enjoy the scenery, and wonder how much it is costing them for all those flashing signs for trucks. Wouldn't that money be better spent keeping tolls lower, so the trucks wouldn't be there in the 1st place? To any locals that complain about the truck traffic, the standard reply should be that you are willing to let them buy you an I-Pass and pay for it, and you'll be happy then to run the toll road!

Yes and the sad part is they really push truckers to get that IPASS and what are the advantages?

IPASS for a car: no increase in tolls at any time of the day

IPASS for a semi: 25 percent reduction from 9am to 3pm and then 7pm to 5am Monday thru Friday. Reduced rate also from 7pm Friday to 5am Monday morning.

Where's the incentive? Why not give them the reduction at all times since they bought the dang IPASS? Oh and they act like that 25 percent is just awesome... guess they forgot they raised our tolls 300 percent to begin with.

I just checked my account from crossing yesterday through the system.

There is no rate reduction from a trip through Friday at rush hour versus Sunday afternoon.
