In March, diesel fuel hit a record high of $4 per gallon. As a result, the truckers who depend on diesel to haul goods across the nation saw their profits dwindling as they struggled to keep fuel in their tanks.
"We can't buy extra groceries, can't go to the places we used to go," said independent trucker and owner of BB of Auburn, Bill T. Bateson in March. "It cuts into everything. I can't take my kids to the movies or to Saginaw Spirit games like I used to."
