Van California pollution control board supports ‘truck weight reform’

California pollution control board supports ‘truck weight reform’
1/30/09
Quote:
An air quality district in California is in support of heavier truckloads in order to cut emissions, a position that OOIDA says is ineffective.
One district official said the agency is open to all arguments on the issue.
Recently the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District Governing Board formally endorsed a plan to increase truck weights on federal highways to 97,000 pounds for commercial trucks hauling raw agriculture commodities and forest products. The endorsement is the first such move made to endorse the heavier weight mission, requested by the Agricultural Transportation Efficiency Coalition (AgTEC).

Do they not realize that the heavier a truck is the harder the engine works. That being said the harder the engine works the more emmissions come out. DUH this is really what they need. BONEHEADS

I think you could run 97000 and go down the grapevine and coast all the way to downtown Long Beach. Anyway, we used to run 90000-125000 and it didn't seem to make a difference to that ol CAT except up Leveta Pass in CO.

Alot of these agriculture trucks out here run overweight. Many of these drivers don't even consider weight unless theres a scale along their route or the shipper/reciever has a policy concerning overweight trucks. Every load i've ever pulled out of a wheat field had me at no less than 90k. most every truck that was hauling pears out of lake county was a few thousand over. Its a common practice out here.

OH yea! I remember when I lived out there, all the tomato trucks around SAC , I always thought they were heavy but to let this happen state wide? OH jut more uncommon sense from another so called board in CA... less trucks with harder working engines to put out dirtier air for the land of ..... and the rest of the country will blindly follow.

And no money to fix what are already the worst roads in the west.
(Can you tell I'm getting tired of getting beat-to-death while I drive)

If they want to cut the pollution in California, they can cut over 90% of it with one simple measure.

Put catalytic converters on the mouths of every politician in the state.

The reason this will never happen, The state is broke, and they would never stand for anything that would cost them personal dollars. That being said... ROFLMAO Thanks for the chuckle
