Straight Road Bill to stop Mexico truck project

Dorgan puts language in Fiscal 2009 Appropriations Bill to stop Mexico truck project
2/24/09
Quote:
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan, D.-N.D., is seeking to once and for all put an end to the Cross Border Demonstration Project.

The long-time, outspoken opponent of the three-year pilot project that allows Mexico-domiciled trucks to travel into the U.S. beyond the commercial trade zone and U.S. trucks to travel into Mexico, has included language in the Fiscal Year 2009 Omnibus Appropriations bill that he said would end the program.

“Mexico and the U.S. do not have equivalent standards when it comes to safety,” Dorgan said. “For one thing, they keep no centralized records of commercial driver licenses, record keeping for accident reports, vehicle inspections and driver violations. *Until there are equivalent provisions and adequate enforcement, this long-haul Mexican truck program should not be allowed to continue.”
*(Emphasis Mine)

The above summarizes why Mexican trucks have no business running up here.

Look, this is not a racist issue as many groups have pointed out in the past.
These drivers (Mexicans) are overworked and underpaid and the Mexican carriers have helped to drag rates down and keep them down to appease some of those cheap a-z-zed shippers.
I just wish Dorgan was around 5 years ago when CA allowed Mexican dump trucks to operate on the FEMA type jobs that traditionally were for American carriers.

The blame goes all the way back Clinton for buying into NAFTA.
NAFTA has yet to yield any benefit to Americans.

Everything I have presented are the facts...opinions have nothing to do with it.

The facts don't back up any claim that NAFTA has not benefited any Americans.
