Canada still top NAFTA trade partner Canada still top NAFTA trade partner Quote: In 2007, U.S. exports to North American Free Trade Agreement partner countries were valued at $385 billion, while imports were valued at $524 billion. U.S.-Canada trade accounted for 62 percent, or $562 billion, and U.S -Mexico trade, 38 percent, or $347 billion, of total U.S.-NAFTA trade, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Measured by value, U.S.-NAFTA trade moved by land transportation was 88 percent, or $797 billion, of the trade, a relatively stable proportion since 1995. But Mexico is increasing and Canada is decreasing . Navistar and Daimler (Freightliner and Western Star) have shifted production from Canada to Mexico . U.S. auto manufacturers are closing plants in Canada . Other U.S. manufacturers are moving production to Mexico .
