"Derek Leathers, president and chief operating officer for Werner Enterprises, also talked about driver pay, showing how since 2006, the average weekly wages for truckers has stayed largely flat (except for a dip during the recession), yet the consumer price index, a measure of inflation, has mostly continued to rise throughout that period, meaning that same pay is buying less."

"there's a clearcut financial incentive for drivers to transition out of truckload into the LTL industry."

I will soon be taking an interview with a local ltl company, if I get it I get paid training.....

    Now read what's not written.
Demand for drivers is based on the amount of freight moving.
    We suddenly have a 'surplus'?
It can only mean this dynamic and wonderful economy is not so wonderful and getting less so.
    No one's buying.
    hmmmmm.

Actually right now there's more freight than drivers to move it. That's also part of why rates are slowly going up.

Nobody actually knows what's going on ,
not only in the trucking industry,
    but on the entire planet.

I am an excellent driver, yeah (short of impatience, that must make me autistic). So I think the whole "we're moving forward" thing is taking us in the wrong direction (and I like doing u-turns).

Didn't you hear the news? Quick, do something! Okay, follow me...

You know, if the business model is a revolving door, there's only a shortage half the time. Could be seasonal even, like there's a shortage of shorts on sale at the moment.

But where did all the pay and raises go ......likely to the places that are now producing products and freight that use to be produced here, Mexico and China are two that come to mind. I feel that since at least 2008 we have been seeing the results of decades of massive job and production abilities exportation to other countries by our 'beloved' leaders. Free trade was executed at a great cost to our country and workers. But as always just opinion.

There is a shortage because drivers are leaving faster than they are being replaced
A!so there is freight increase, that is contributed to the fact the population is going up
