Trucks over 20 tons can't travel N.H.-Maine bridge

Trucks over 20 tons can't travel N.H.-Maine bridge

Quote:
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Transportation officials say trucks that weigh more than 20 tons can no longer use the Sarah Long Bridge, which connects New Hampshire and Maine.

The New Hampshire Department of transportation says that's necessary because of severe deterioration on several steel deck supports, WTSN radio reported.

Maintenance crews plan to start repairs to the bridge soon, which connects Portsmouth, N.H., and Kittery, Maine.

The bridge is open to traffic, but trucks that exceed the 20-ton limit will have to use the Interstate 95 bridge. Another bridge, Memorial Bridge, also has a 20-ton limit.

Thumbs up

Yea that does stink for those two truck stops but you can go thru 1st rest area in Maine and hang a right and go down rte 1 or get off exit 2 in Maine and your # the Irving. Run this area quite a bit

The Irving won't suffer. Over the past several months it's gotten busier and busier. Easily accessible from I-95 exit 2. I go in and out of Maine every week and never used that bridge they talk about in the article.
