Some states suspend road work to ease July 4 travel Some states suspend road work to ease July 4 travel Quote: Some state departments of transportation are suspending road work to help ease holiday travel conditions for the Fourth of July weekend. Louisiana's Department of Transportation and Development is urging extra caution amid heavy July 4 traffic and noted that one major construction project will be suspended beginning Friday. This Was A First! Figured I would post this here, since it pertains, in a way... About 2 hours ago, while traveling I-74 west in IL, there was a big stretch of construction. 5 miles before the lane ending, was, of course, the sign stating said lane ending. To my surprise, EVERY vehicle immediately got into the correct lane, with no 4-wheelers, or "super-truckers" zipping up to the end of the lane,creating a bottle-neck and subsequent back-up. I've had my drivers' license since I was 18, and I have to tell ya, THIS WAS A FIRST!! Considerate, polite drivers, 4-wheelers and big trucks alike, who followed the road signs, and this large stretch of construction, had traffic flowing smoothly, with nary a back-up! Nice. I just came through there eastbound and they had all the lanes open again. Big problems in Chicago on 80 though. They have construction there and I was listening to the CB chatter. There's been a couple of bad fatalities as they come over the hill and find traffic stopped. Several guys were yelling "Brake check, brake check!" They sounded like they barely stopped in time.
